VP Classic 80w90 GL-4 Gear Oil
VP Classic® SAE 80w90 GL-4 Gear Oil is an API GL-4 lubricant. We design it for use with ‘yellow metals' (bronze, brass, copper). We also engineer it for other soft metals used in components found in manual transmissions and transaxles. For instance, synchronizers, thrust washers, bushings, and other components. We recommend its use in traditional manual transmissions such as Rockwell, Muncie, Borg-Warner, Ford, and Saginaw. Additionally, it's also suited for import manual transmissions/transaxles that call for and API GL-4 gear oil.
Also, do NOT use this 80w90 gear lubricant in applications that require a GL-5 extreme pressure or other gear oil quality. Do NOT use in applications calling for an OEM specialized lubricant.

What Is GL-4 Gear Oil Designed For?
GL-4 gear oil is designed for synchronized manual transmissions and transaxles that use “yellow metals” such as brass, bronze, and copper. These softer metals are commonly found in synchronizers, bushings, thrust washers, and other transmission components that require controlled protection and compatibility.
WHY YELLOW METAL COMPATIBILITY MATTERS
Some higher extreme pressure gear oils can be too aggressive for certain yellow metal components used in manual transmissions. GL-4 gear oil is formulated to provide the protection required for synchronized gearboxes while maintaining compatibility with these softer metals.
